How to Use Fins on a Boogie Board

A boogie board is used for the water activity of body boarding. While on the boogie board, you paddle out into the water and attempt to catch waves, much as surfers do. This takes a great deal of control. Executing this amount of control without wearing fins is extremely difficult. The fins are often referred to as swim fins, and they should be worn at all times while on your boogie board.

Instructions

    • 1

Get fins that are appropriately sized for your feet. Fin manufacturers have sizing charts for your foot size and gender. Use these charts and try on the swim fins before using them with your boogie board.

    • 2

Lie across your board on your stomach, holding onto the board with your hands beside your shoulders and your head beyond the front of the board. Push your feet, with the fins securely on them, beneath the surface of the water.

    • 3

Kick your feet under the water to propel your body forward and paddle out to the waves. Do not let your feet come out of the water, as you will have less control.

    • 4

Wait to see a wave approaching. When the wave is close, kick to propel your body into the wave. Keep kicking until the momentum of the wave grabs and pushes you forward. Using your fins, steer yourself towards the shore.
