Instructions

1
Cut a piece of aluminum metal to 7 ½ inches by 21 inches using a hacksaw. You can round off the corners, if you want to make a more finished looking rack.
-
2
Make a mark along the top, horizontal edge of the metal with a permanent marker at 7 inches and another at 14 inches. The marks should be ½ inch below the top edge of the metal.
-
3
Draw another two marks directly below each of the marks along the top edge. These marks should be ½ inch above the bottom, horizontal edge of the metal.
-
4
Add two final marks, each one directly in between the ones above and below them. You should now have two vertical columns of three marks each.
-
5
Drill a hole through each of the six marks with a power drill and a metal drilling bit. The holes should go all the way through the metal so you can see through it.
-
6
Drill through the bottom of each of the metal rods. The hole should be deep enough to accommodate the bolts you will be using.
-
7
Set each of the rods over the drilled holes on the piece of metal, so the drilled ends of the rods line up with the holes.
-
8
Insert a flat head bolt into each of the holes on the backside of the metal and tighten them into the metal rods. Use a wrench to secure the bolt in place.
-
9
Slide pieces of foam rubber noodle over each of the rods and cut them down so they fit the length of each rod. Use a small amount of spray adhesive to secure the noodle in place on the rods.
-
10
Set the rack against the boat where you want to attach it and hold the triangle brackets between the rack and the boat. The rods should be positioned so they are pointing up at a 90 degree angle.
-
11
Trace the holes of the brackets onto the metal and drill through the marks. Attach the brackets to the back of the rack and then to the boat.
