1
Take the appropriate measurements for the tower. Measure from the sides of the hull to the desired height above the deck, from the top surface in front of the windshield to the same height, and across the deck where the tower would rise.
-
2
Measure the aluminum piping. For the two pieces attaching to the front of the windshield, add eight to 10 inches to the measurement and cut. For the hull pieces, add six to eight inches before cutting, and reduce the vertical measurement over the deck by four to six inches.
-
3
Curve the hull pipes using the hydraulic roller. The severity of the curve is up to your discretion, but a good standard would be between 30 to 45 degrees. Curve the front-facing pipes as well, this time between five and 15 degrees.
-
4
Weld both sets of pipes to either side of the remaining vertical pipe. Allow sufficient cooling time before mounting the tower to the boat.
-
5
Drill holes to mount the tower; be sure to include at least eight holes and eight bolts to fasten securely to the fiberglass hull. Add washers to the bolts before securing to protect the fiberglass.
-
6
Test the strength of the tower by doing a "pull" test. Simply apply adequate pressure to the tower to ensure the welding will withstand weight before using.
