How to Squeeze Into a Wetsuit

Sometimes the most difficult part of water sports like surfing or water-skiing is dealing with the ice-cold water. This is where wetsuits come in. Wetsuits consist of neoprene, a material that allows only a slight amount of water onto your skin. The wetsuit quickly warms up that layer of water, keeping you toasty, no matter the water temperature. While it might appear simple to put on such a garment, mastering it correctly requires practice.

Instructions

    • 1

Unzip the wetsuit fully and step into it, sliding your ankles through the leg holes. Yank the sides of the wet suit past your calves and shins to your thighs.

    • 2

Adjust and smooth any twists and folds in the leg area.

    • 3

Pull the wetsuit to your hips. Adjust the fabric of the suit at your crotch. It should feel snug, but not tight. The neoprene should not sag, as that will cause discomfort.

    • 4

Push your arms into the sleeves of the wetsuit. Yank the fabric so that it hits your armpits snugly, but not tightly. Fix any twists or bunches in the sleeves.

    • 5

Adjust the shoulders of the wetsuit to ensure they rest lightly on your own shoulders. Zip the suit and secure any fastenings. The suit should not feel tight, and should not pull on any part of your body or exert unpleasant pressure.
