How to Do a Barrel Roll on the Kneeboard

A hot summer day on the lake is always great. Showing skills on a water ski, wake board or knee board is even better and, for those without much experience on the water, a knee board is a great way to learn, improve and impress quickly. Going from a first-timer to pulling off tricks like a barrel roll is a short journey: just make sure you can consistently clear the wake, have a boat pulling you at the right speed and aren't afraid of taking a few tumbles before you try one.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the rope length between 45 and 55 feet, get up on the knee board and complete a couple of wake jumps to make sure the boat is going the right speed and you are loosened up.

    • 2

Hold the handle in a baseball-like grip and start out about 10 feet off of the wake before turning your edge toward the wake and holding the edge all the way through until you feel yourself start to lift or pop into the air.

    • 3

Pull the handle across your body and hold it tightly on your hip while simultaneously looking back over your outside shoulder and dropping your other shoulder toward your knees. For example, if you are cutting from the left side, look back over your left shoulder and drop your right shoulder to your knees. While in the air attempt to look over your right shoulder to spot the landing and continue your rotation.
