How to Connect a Ski Rope to a Boat

Water skis have been a popular water toy for many years. Water skiers are towed by your boat, which means you must connect a ski rope to your boat that will stay attached when it's needed and can be removed when it isn't. Whether you have a ski pole or a tow ring on the back of your boat, the same type of knot will work. Called a "fisherman's bend," the knot won't capsize--come loose or tighten so that the ski rope must be cut.

Instructions

    • 1

Loop the rope loosely all the way around the ski pole or through the tow ring mounted on the back of your boat.

    • 2

Pull the end of the rope, called the bitter end, around the main part of the rope, then push the bitter end down through the loop around the ski pole.

    • 3

Pull the bitter end around the standing part of the rope to form a loop. Tuck the bitter end up between itself and the standing part of the rope

    • 4

Carry the bitter end around the standing part a second time. Tuck the bitter end under itself again. Pull the bitter end tight to complete a fisherman's bend that secures the ski rope to the ski pole.
