How to Buy Water Skis

1
Determine what type of ski that you want to purchase. Water skis are manufactured for a number of different purposes. Combination or paired skiing -- where the skis can be used either as a pair or as a single, slalom ski -- are commonly used as an all-purpose ski for families and beginners. There are also skis designed for slalom only, trick skiing and jumping.

2
Choose a length for your skis. In general, longer skis are better for beginners because they turn more easily, but they will not go as fast. Shorter skis are more difficult to turn, but go faster. Your weight is another important factor in choosing a ski. Check with the ski manufacturers for a recommended length for your body weight.

3
Pick the right binding. The binding is what holds your foot to the ski; it is sometimes referred to as the "boot" of the ski. Try on different skis and pick one with a comfortable fit, as well as one that is designed for the type of skiing you will be doing.
-
4
Visit local water sports stores and compare the prices, features and specifications of the water skis. This is useful whether you end up buying them in the store or online because you will have had some hands-on experience with them and can try them on before purchasing.
-
5
Pick a ski that you feel offers you the best value when considering the above criteria. It should not necessarily be the least expensive, but the best combination of price and quality.
