How to Enter Bodyboarding Competitions

Bodyboarding is fun and exciting, and many people discover the joys of conquering the waves as a hobby. Some enthusiasts take their love of bodyboarding to a competitive level. Bodyboarding competitions are common in U.S. coastal states and Europe. However, the bodyboarding industry is somewhat elite, and it can be difficult to locate competitions. Learn how to enter bodyboarding competitions and take your love of the waves to the next level.

      Begin by learning the basics of bodyboarding. Enroll in a few bodyboarding classes taught by someone who has competed in various competitions.

      Practice your bodyboarding techniques at least two to three times a week. Have a friend or fellow bodyboarder videotape your practice sessions and review them later to visually see what needs to be improved upon.

      Set your sights on eventually entering the Pipeline Bodyboarding Competition as it is the gold standard in bodyboarding contests. Enter a few smaller competitions on a state/province, or regional level before seeking entry into the Pipeline competition.

      Join the International Bodyboarding Association which will give you an inside track on the worlds top competitions and qualifiers, and gain you preliminary entry into specific competitions sponsored by the IBA. Carefully read all contest entry information as fees and guidelines vary per competition.

      Submit your entry form as early as possible and wait for confirmation that you have been admitted to the contest. Pay special attention to caveats such as equipment limitations, clothing specifics, and seeding (or qualifying) criterion.
