Find a tour guide company. For those who do not have experience white water rafting, there are a large number of tour guide companies to choose from.

How long do you want to raft for? Guided rafting trips down the Colorado River range in length from one day to 18 days.

Know the routes. Many of the shorter trips take place between Glen Canyon Dam and Lees Ferry at the northeastern end of the canyon. Others start at Quartermaster or Diamond Creek on the canyon's western end.

Choose the time of year and which section of the river you want to go on your vacation. The river will be at different white water rafting skill levels at different times of the year and at different parts of the river.

Learn white water rafting techniques and safety. The Colorado River can be a challenging experience. The park recommends that at least one member of your party have some rafting experience.
