How to Place a Horse Racing Quinella Bet

A day at the track can be filled with the huge pay of victory or the bitter taste of defeat depending on where you place your bets. So if you love playing the ponies and are inclined to make a bet that is tough to pay off, but gives great odds, then the Quinella bet may be the one for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Select 2 horses from the race you wish to bet on. When making a quinella bet, the 2 horses you pick must finish first or second, in either order, for the ticket to pay.

    • 2

Approach the betting window or computer module and indicate which horses you wish to wager on. For instance, you would say, "I'd like to place a $3 quinella bet on the 3rd race for the 5 and 7 horses."

    • 3

Give the teller your money in exchange for the betting ticket. Be sure the ticket is right before you leave the betting window.

    • 4

Check the odds as the race approaches. Horse racing odds can change literally up to the moment the horses pound through the gate. But checking the odds just before will give you a good idea of where you stand.

    • 5

Cheer your horses on as they make the final turn. Remember that the order your horses finish doesn't matter as long is they are first and second.

    • 6

Win the bet and collect your money. If your horses come in, return to the ticket window and receive your payout. Once the race has finished, they will announce the payouts for various bets over the loudspeaker.
