How to Win Money at the Races

1
Study form before placing any bets. Look for horses that have been winning races or finishing well recently. Check the distance a horse has finished behind a winner. Finishing sixth in a lengthy race but only a few yards behind the winner might indicate a good performance. Also look at the form of the jockey and how well the trainer has been doing.

2
Check how the horse has done at this course or running at the same distance previously. Horses get to know and like particular tracks and the adage "horses for courses" should not be dismissed. The same applies to distance. Horses find a distance they like and it makes sense to back a horse that has been successful at the same distance previously.
-
3
Consider the weather conditions and ground conditions. Many horses have a preference for good or heavy going and you should steer clear of a horse not suited to the conditions.
-
4
Keep an eye on the market. If a horse's price starts to fall quickly it indicates that a lot of money is being staked on it. This suggests that more experienced gamblers or industry insiders have knowledge that a horse is in form and has been prepared for this type of track.
