Things to Wear to a Baseball Game
-
Baseball cap
-
Baseball caps aren't only worn to support your team, although that's an important part of it, too. The design of the baseball cap is made to keep sun off of your nose and cheeks, and to shade your eyes from glare. In very windy conditions, a cap can prevent your hair from becoming a tangled nest of locks.
Team jersey or t-shirt
-
If you're going to support the team, one of the most visible ways is to wear their logo on your shirt. Official shirts can be purchased in the ballpark, or less expensive versions can be bought in other stores in hometowns. Whether pricey or not, make sure that the logo can be seen if you get shown on the television camera during the game.
Comfortable shoes
-
Going to a ball game involves a lot of walking, and there's almost no avoiding it. Long lines, seats a far distance from the gate and trips to the concession stands and restrooms all add up to miles on your feet before the game is over. Wear comfortable shoes, such as tennis shoes or walking shoes. High heels have no business in ballparks, unless you work in the front office.
Poncho or rain gear
-
If there is any chance of rain in the forecast, bring along a folding poncho or other rain gear. Even inexpensive emergency ponchos from the dollar store will be welcomed in a sudden downpour. The alternative is missing the game while seeking shelter or getting soaked and cold while watching the action.
Address tag
-
For parents with children, a useful addition is a paper dog tag with the parents' name and cell phone number. String this tag on a piece of yarn and hang it around your child's neck under her shirt. If she gets lost, tell her to go to someone official, such as a police officer, and show it to him. Many children forget numbers when they are scared, and this will help police or stadium crew to find you.
Sunscreen
-
Afternoon ball games can be hours long, and if your seats are in the sun you run the risk of major sunburn. Apply sunscreen before leaving home, and at least once during the afternoon.
