How to Get Rid of Fukudome
Instructions

1
Trade him to another team. If you can find another team that wants Fukudome, you can transfer his contract to them and receive another player or players in return. Because of Fukudome's salary and the perception that he makes more money than he is worth, however, you can expect to have to throw some extra cash into the bargain to facilitate a trade.
-
2
Place Fukudome on irrevocable waivers and hope another team takes him. When a player is placed on waivers, other teams have 48 hours in which to claim the player. The team that claims him assumes his contract.
-
3
Release Fukudome from the Cubs and make him a free agent if he cleared waivers. If you release him, however, you will still have to pay the remaining amount of money owed to him on his contract.
-
4
Wait for his contract to expire. His contract is set to expire at the end of the 2011 season, after which he will have made $48 million over four seasons. As long as you do not sign him to a contract extension before the end of the season, he will become a free agent and no longer a member of the Chicago Cubs.
