Who Owns the NFL Teams?

The teams in the National Football League are owned by individuals that have either been associated with the franchise from its beginnings or have inherited or purchased the team. The Green Bay Packers are the one notable exception to this, being a publicly owned non-profit company since the team's foundation in 1923. All owners are as of May, 2009.

  1. NFC East and North

    • The Dallas Cowboys are owned by Jerry Jones while the New York Giants are co-owned by Steve Tisch and John Mara. The Philadelphia Eagles were purchased by Jeffrey Lurie in 1994 and the Washington Redskins by Dan Snyder in 1999. Virginia Halas McCaskey inherited the Chicago Bears and William Clay Ford, Sr. owns the Detroit Lions. The majority owner of the Minnesota Vikings is Zygi Wilf and the Packers are owned by over 111,000 stockholders in their corporation.

    NFC South and West

    • The Atlanta Falcons belong to Arthur Blank and the Carolina Panthers to Jerry Richardson. Tom Benson is the owner of the New Orleans Saints and Malcolm Glazer owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The St. Louis Rams' majority owner is Chip Rosenbloom; Denise and John York own the San Francisco 49ers. The Seattle Seahawks belong to Paul Allen and the Arizona Cardinals to Bill Bidwell.

    AFC East

    • Ralph Wilson has owned the Buffalo Bills since 1960 and Robert "Woody" Johnson IV has owned the New York Jets since 2000. Robert Kraft possesses the New England Patriots and Stephen Ross the Miami Dolphins.

    AFC South

    • Oil man Bud Adams owns the Tennessee Titans, while Robert McNair owns the Houston Texans. Jim Irsay is the owner of the Indianapolis Colts and Wayne Weaver owns the Jacksonville Jaguars.

    AFC West

    • Al Davis is the founder and original owner of the Oakland Raiders and Clark Hunt inherited the Kansas City Chiefs from Lamar Hunt. Pat Bowlen of the Denver Broncos and Alex Spanos of the San Diego Chargers have owned their teams since 1984.

    AFC North

    • The Cleveland Browns are the property of Randy Lerner and the Cincinnati Bengals are owned by Mike Brown. The Pittsburgh Steelers are held by Dan Rooney and the Baltimore Ravens by Steve Bisciotti.
