How to Dress for an NFL Tailgate Party

Dressing up plays a big role in getting into the mood for an NFL tailgate party. Not only does it announce to others which team you support, but it also makes you feel closer to your own team and those supporting the same players.

Instructions

  1. Dress for an NFL Tailgate Party

    • 1

Wear your team's official clothing. It's usually not hard to find a jersey or windbreaker with the official logo on it. If you have a hard time finding something appropriate, however, choose to wear your team's colors.

    • 2

Dress comfortably. Avoid clothes that are too tight or made with non-absorbent material, especially in hot or humid weather. Choose sneakers or shoes that won't start hurting your feet after a couple of hours standing and walking around.

    • 3

Dress in layers. Not only will it allow you to adapt should the weather change in mid-afternoon, but it will also make it more comfortable if you need to move around or prepare food at the NFL tailgate party. A jersey and a jacket are better than a thick sweater.

    • 4

Be prepared for weather changes. Take a poncho or a large umbrella. Large garbage bags can also serve as impromptu ponchos in unexpected rain showers, so take a few extra bags along.

    • 5

Shop online at the NFL's official website for jerseys, caps and bandannas with your team's logo on them (see Resources below). If you're supporting a non-local team, this may be the only way to find official clothing. Otherwise, you can also check sport stores in your area to see whether they carry apparel and footwear for specific teams, especially if the team you support is well known.
