1
Shop at the NHL.com site or at specific team sites for vintage programs and highlights. You can find DVDs covering topics like the greatest goals or multi-disc sets that examine the history of the original six franchises. These programs generally feature a range of vintage highlights and materials and you may even find programs that contain entire vintage games, particularly Stanley Cup playoff matches.
-
2
Search online for vintage programs. Sites like eBay and Amazon sell videos of NHL vintage highlights and other material. Although many of the DVDs or videos will be the same as what you'd find at the official NHL site, occasionally you can find something that's not.
-
3
Subscribe to the NHL network through your cable provider. This network, currently available in both Canada and the United States, frequently broadcasts vintage games. With today's technology, you can record the program for your own viewing at a later time.
-
4
Contact the NHL or particular teams about specific games or highlights if you haven't been able to find them through another source. The league may be able to help you locate it for purchase or give you other information, including whether the game was televised at all.
-
5
Recognize that not all games or important moments were televised. If you're seeking a particular moment or game, finding a program that covers it may be impossible if it wasn't televised originally. Due to the age of the league, many of the early games had no television coverage at all and until recently, most teams would only have a few televised games a season.
