How to Make a Pugil Stick

Military combat training takes many forms. New soldiers learn survival skills, how to handle firearms and hand-to-hand combat. Pugil sticks, while not used in battle, are used to train future Marines and other servicemembers in hand-to-hand combat. The sticks are poles with padding at each end and are the approximate length of a rifle. Trainees attempt to strike or knock down an opponent or force him out of a designated competition space, such as a ring.
