Become a Harlem Globetrotter
-
1
Play and compete on school teams. Develop the basic skills necessary to get a position playing for a major college. Practice as often as possible.
-
2
Watch the Harlem Globetrotters perform either live or by viewing videos of the team performing.
-
3
Attend a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college and compete on a college team. If necessary, apply for athletic scholarships in order to pay for attending college.
-
4
Consider all options available to you and decide whether being a Harlem Globetrotter would benefit you more than competing in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), Continental Basketball Association (CBA), National Basketball Development League (NBDL), American Basketball Association (ABA) or foreign basketball league. In making your decision, consider factors such as salary, whether your choice is suitable to you and your family if you were to have to move to another location (such as in Europe) and how your choice would affect your ability to advance in your career in terms of prestige and salary.
-
5
Prepare a professional press kit. At a minimum, a good press kit should include an 8” x 10” action photo, contact information, news clippings about you, resumé and DVD film clips of your actual performances. It is best to include a cover letter and place all of the items in the press kit into a professional looking folder.
-
6
Submit your presentation package to the Harlem Globetrotter head office. If you don’t receive a reply, send a follow-up letter or call the team’s office to verify that the Director of Player Personnel actually received your submission package. Alternatively, you can send the submission package via Express Mail, Priority Mail, or Certified Mail.
