Boxing: Training Tips
-
Blocking
-
When you block your opponent, it's essential to drop your weight. As the Expert Training website says, this technique will allow you to temporarily provide an anchor for yourself on the ground. It will also enable you to take harder punches well by fortifying your body structure. It will prevent you from allowing the taller, stronger boxers to push you around while blocking.
The Expert Training site recommends that you practice this technique by using a heavy punching bag. Standing in front of the bag, let your chest slightly touch it. Push hard on the bag to make it swing away from you. If you do it correctly, you can expect the bag to come back towards you. As you see it coming towards your face, drop your weight and block, then exhale.
Breathing
-
Breathing is always important. As the Nicco website points out, the tendency is to hold your breath. Practice exhaling in short, sharp breaths as you punch. According to the Expert Boxing website, if you do not breathe, you will become winded. Such fatigue will leave you vulnerable.
Skipping Rope
-
According to the Nicco Boxing website, skipping rope is an excellent training method for a boxer, as it builds the coordination necessary for a fighter. The website recommends that you skip 100 times with both feet. Perform 10 repetitions of backward skipping, double jumps, and alternating between both feet, right foot and left foot.
Proper Stance
-
Always keep your eyes on your opponent. That shows that you are paying attention to him, and that you are not afraid of him. Also, according to the Nicco website, you should remember to tuck your chin in. Arrange your arms in a way to protect your lower body. Space your feet apart. In addition, you should flex your knees so as to enable easy movement against your opponent.
Staying Fit
-
Stay fit at all times, not only when you know you are about to fight again. As the How to Box website states, fitness should be a way of life. Watch what you eat. If you are having trouble staying on a proper diet, see a dietitian. Avoid too many carbohydrates and sweets, and beverages such as soda, or anything else containing sugar. Keep your portions small. And never forget to work out, even if you do not have access to a gym.
