How to Train For Professional Boxing

1
Make adjustments to your diet. To box competitively, you will need to be sorted into a weight class. If you wish to slim down and compete in a lower weight class, you must reduce the amount of calories you consume every day while exercising more. If you wish to bulk up, you must consume more calories and work out so that the energy converts to muscle.

2
Build strength in your upper body. While adjusting to your new dietary habits, work out every day to increase the strength in your arms, shoulders, chest, back and abdominal muscles. Free weights will yield the greatest results, but machines will help as well. Work out different muscle groups each day and never work the same muscles two days in a row, as they will need time to heal after each workout.

Wake up early and run like you have never run before. Professional boxers must maintain an intense heart rate for limited time intervals while in the ring, so spend your mornings performing intense anaerobic exercises in order to prepare yourself. Try sprinting as quickly as your body will allow for two to three minutes, then rest and repeat the process several more times. Your body will tell you when you cannot handle any more. Push yourself to the limit, but do not overexert yourself.

4
Practice. It seems self-explanatory, but boxing is as much about technique as it is about fitness. A few days every week, spend time practicing bag punching, shadowboxing and sparring with a live partner. Focus on your form and alternate between different types of punches and jabs. Before long, you will be ready to hit the ring with the pros.
