Boxing Diet Nutrition

Healthy nutrition is an important factor in success as a boxer. The food and drinks you ingest will have a direct impact on how you perform during training and competition.
  1. Daily Meals

    • Fight preparation is typically an all-day affair. To stay properly fueled, a fighter should eat five to six small meals throughout the day.

    Liquids

    • Water is particularly important during athletic competitions. A fighter should drink 10 to 12 8-oz. glasses a day.

    Types of Food

    • Fighters should eat foods high in protein to help improve muscle growth and performance. These include chicken, fish, beef and eggs. Protein drinks can have a variety of benefits, including assisting in muscle growth, energy maintenance and weight management. The shakes also can be used as quick meal replacements.

    Eating Before Competition

    • Eating before a fight is important to maintain your energy level. Fruits and protein-packed foods such as nuts, egg whites and low-fat yogurt can give you a boost, but won't cause the sluggishness associated with foods high in sugar.

    Post-fight Nutrition

    • After a fight you must refuel to help your body recover. Protein snacks such as a peanut butter sandwich or shakes are ideal right after a bout.
