How to Close the Clubface During a Downswing in Golf

Place the dominant hand on the bottom of the grip, with the trail hand on top of the grip. For instance, if you are right-handed, place the right hand lower on the club with the left hand closer to the end, so it is on top of the right hand.

Make a slight gap, approximately a half inch, between the two hands.

Close the grip by turning the trail wrist in toward the club so that more of the top portion of the hand is visible. This slight adjustment of the hand and wrist impacts how tight the swing becomes when making impact with the ball.

Get into the downswing position. As the club moves down, release the trail wrist sooner than normal to keep the clubface closed.

Control the club with the dominant hand and wrist, so that the closing effect does not cause the ball to drive too much to the left -- for righties -- or too far to the right for players who are left-handed.
