What Are Minitrons in WWE?

The main stage for a live WWE show features a large Titan Tron that displays the live feed, graphics and the majority of images that are fed out for a live broadcast. Along with the Titan Tron are supplemental screens referred to as Minitrons. The Minitrons display more information, videos and extras for a live WWE broadcast.
  1. Size

    • Each minitron varies in size but they are all about 1/3 the size of the actual titan tron. The top most mini tron at a WWE show is the same horizontal length with about one fourth of the vertical length.

    Features

    • Kane enters the arena with two minitrons in the background

The main use for the minitron is the WWE wrestler entrance. Along with the Titan Tron video, the minitrons are used to display the wrestler name and graphics associated with them. For example, when the Undertaker enters, the minitrons display gravestones, fog and other eerie elements. When Kane enters, the minitrons display animated flames. When a wrestler is not competing, the minitron often displays the show name like "WWE Friday Night Smackdown!" or a promotion for an upcoming pay per view like "WWE Summer Slam: Three Weeks Away."

    Function

    • Fans of the WWE minitrons videos can download minitron animated GIFs. The animations display the graphics and designs featured on the minitrons. They are used for fan websites and avatars on wrestling and general forums. The different minitron animations are categorized by wrestler, faction or generic brand animations for Raw, Smackdown and pay per view events.

    Interaction

    • The minitrons are rarely used for storyline purposes, but there have been a few occassions where WWE wrestlers interacted with them. A week before "WWE Raw" converted to HD, Triple H used his sledgehammer to smash and break the minitron directly behind the stage after Vince McMahon provokes him. Other times, wrestlers have been thrown directly into the screen during no holds barred matches or random attacks.
