How to Do the Angle Lock

Kurt Angle is a former amateur wrestler who reached the top of the sport, winning a gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games. Angle parlayed his success into a career as a professional wrestler and used his amateur wrestling base for his entertainment persona. Like most top wrestlers, Angle developed a signature move to defeat his opponents. Angle's trademark submission was a variation on a standard ankle lock, aptly renamed the "Angle Lock."

Instructions

    • 1

Roll your opponent onto her stomach while standing near her legs or midsection.

    • 2

Grab your opponent's leg with the hand that matches it. For example, to attack the left leg of an opponent, grab the ankle in your left hand.

    • 3

Step over your opponent's legs and turn to face his feet, with one of your feet planted between his legs and the other on the side of his legs matching the ankle you will attack. For the example, the left ankle of an opponent will be aligned to your right as you are facing the opposite direction, so place your left leg between his legs and your right leg to the right of his left leg.

    • 4

Slide the arm that is used to grab the leg across your opponent's ankle so the leg rests on your wrist, and grab the wrist of your free hand with the hand that was holding the ankle. For the example, the left hand would release the ankle and slide across to grab the right wrist. Place all five fingers across the top of the wrist being grabbed.

    • 5

Grip the outside of the foot being attacked with your free hand.

    • 6

Twist gently on the foot, being sure not to apply intense pressure.
