Instructions
-
-
1
Make sure your horse is in good shape and well-trained. Horses should be completely trained before learning how to run barrels.
-
2
Watch a barrel racing competition to learn exactly what is expected of a horse and rider during a barrel race. Whether you watch the National Finals Rodeo or a local rodeo, the pattern is run the same way.
-
3
Attend a barrel racing clinic taught by a well-known barrel racer. These clinics teach you how to run barrels, how to keep you and your horse in shape and how to correct problems.
-
4
Train your horse or have him trained by a professional. Practice for a few months until you are confident in your barrel racing abilities.
-
5
Find a local barrel racing competition to run your first race. You may not win, but getting experience is great for both you and your horse.
-
6
Join a local barrel racing organization and regularly attend the barrel races. Meeting and talking to other barrel racers can help you understand and learn more about being a barrel racer.
