How to Make a Team Roping Dummy out of PVC

Rodeos offer a wide range of competitions, such as bull riding and roping. Team roping is an event during which a team of riders attempts to rope and tie a calf as quickly as possible. Make a dummy out of PVC to help practice your team roping skills instead of buying a more expensive version online or at sporting good stores. Build a PVC roping dummy with members of your team to create a team-building exercise.

  • 3-inch diameter PVC Pipe
  • Hacksaw
  • Tape measure
  • Tee PVC pipe fittings
  • PVC cement
  • PVC caps

      Cut four pieces of PVC pipe at about 3 feet in length with a hacksaw. Cut four more pieces at about 1 1/2 feet tall. Finish by cutting four pieces at 1 foot long. These pieces will connect to make your body.

      Place a tee PVC fitting on both ends of two of the 3-foot PVC pipes. Place a 1-foot PVC pipe in the bottom ends of each of the tee fittings and push them tightly inside. Push the other ends of these pipes into the tee fitting of the other 3-foot pipe so that it runs parallel to the original 3-foot pipe. You should have a rectangular set of PVC pipes measuring 3 feet wide by 1 foot tall.

      Repeat the process with the other two 3 foot PVC pipes and the other two 1 foot PVC pipes to create another rectangle. Connect these by fitting the 1 1/2 foot PVC pipes in the tee fittings facing each other and push them tightly. You should now have a three dimension rectangle measuring 3 feet by 1 1/2 half feet by 1 foot.

      Measure and cut out two pieces of PVC to about 5 feet long. Cut four 6-inch PVC pipes. These will form the base of the dummy.

      Attach a 6-inch pipe 1 foot from the end of your 5-foot pipe using the PVC cement. Cement another on the same side and angle 1 foot down from the other end. Repeat this process with the other 5-foot and 6-inch pipes. Let the cement dry for several hours.
