The lasso is a loop of rope that is designed to be thrown around a target and tighten when pulled, historically used by the American cowboy. The romantic legacy of the "wild west" still gains attention from modern day people around the world, often desiring an attempt at spinning a lasso. Instructions

    • 1

Grab the 20 feet of 3/8-inch cotton rope, and begin by tying a simple overhand knot about 5 inches from one end of the rope. The long end of the rope is the stem, the loop is the noose, and the knot is the Honda.

    • 2

Push down on the overhand knot, and take the tail end of the rope and push it through the opening made by pushing down on the overhand knot.

    • 3

Shape the Honda with your hands after the knot is pulled snug but not totally tight. If it is too big or too small, adjust the knot to increase or decrease the size of the Honda. When the noose is the desired size, tighten it.

    • 4

Hold the stem and one part of the noose with your right hand, placing it over your head. Keep the noose open with your left hand just below your waist.

    • 5

Lift the noose overhead with your right hand, keeping your left hand down. Drop the right hand until the rope is horizontal and circling your waist with a smooth and fluent motion.

    • 6

Release the noose with your right hand, but keep a grip on the end of the stem. Release the noose with the left hand, and begin spinning the rope from right to left, encircling your body. Spin the rope with your wrist. Do not include your arm in the spinning motion.
