1
Drape the tail end of the rope over a piece of fence railing. The tail is the end opposite of the loop and railing is abundant in the corral areas of livestock arenas. Pull the tail end of the rope under the railing and cross it over the front of itself. Lift the tail behind the rail to create a small loop against the railing. Pull the tail down through the loop to secure it to the railing. This is a common knot used to prepare the bull rope before riding.
-
2
Pull the loop end of the rope tight. Place hard tension on the loop to straighten the rope and find the center of the loop. Hold the loop in your right hand and reach one arm's length up the rope with your left hand.
-
3
Grab the rope with your left hand to hold the measurement and tie an overhand knot with the loop. Pull the knot against the railing to hold it in place.
-
4
Pull tight on the end of the loop and make small adjustments by pushing on the knot. Make adjustments until it's obvious that the knot is tight and will not slip.
