How to Win Fight of the Night in the UFC
Instructions
-
-
1
Train regularly to improve both your combat skills and your physical fitness. A fighter requires the ability to fight at a high rate to earn a fight of the night bonus.
-
2
Fight at a high pace, with minimal periods of inactivity. The award is only given to one fight per event, with cards containing ten to twelve fights each, so a fight with long lulls is likely to be outshone by another bout on the card.
-
3
Compete in a bout which lasts multiple rounds. While not every "Fight of the Night" bonus goes to decision, the majority of the chosen bouts last at least two full rounds.
-
4
Strike on the feet to improve your chances as more stand-up fights win fight of the night than technical grappling bouts.
-
5
Engage in fast-paced scrambles on the ground, with both fighters vying for best position through a series of rolls. Ground fights which win "Fight of the Night" nearly always featured ground work that is back and forth, as opposed to one fighter on top dealing strikes for an entire round.
-
6
Place your opponent in danger one or more times while also being in danger yourself. A fight in which both fighters appear rocked and about to be finished, or both are caught in close submission holds, commonly wins "Fight of the Night" over one-sided bouts.
-
7
Finish the fight on a high note. A fight which has two exciting rounds, then a slow third as both fighters are tired is less likely to win as the last impression is not a positive one.
