Instructions

-
1
Enroll in classes at a gym which offers instruction in mixed martial arts. While many gyms will focus on specific arts, such as a gym focusing on muay Thai striking and Brazilian jiu jitsu grappling, it is important to check that other arts are still studied to ensure you develop well balanced skills.
-
2
Practice striking arts such as muay Thai and boxing to be a dangerous fighter at a distance while on your feet.
-
3
Learn to move your opponent around in the clinch, as well as throw strikes. Attempt throws to bring the fight to the ground, and counters to remain on your feet.
-
4
Practice wrestling to learn how to take an opponent down from a distance, as well as to defend a takedown attempt when you wish to keep a fight standing.
-
5
Train in submission grappling arts, such as Brazilian jiu jitsu, to learn how to attack and defend with submissions, as well as to improve your position, both as the fighter that is on top and as the fighter that is on his back.
-
6
Develop your cardiovascular system by taking part in running exercises as well as practical endurance workouts, such as "shark bait" sessions where one athlete grapples or spars against a series of fresh opponents. A fighter with poor endurance will struggle in fights they can not finish quickly.
-
7
Schedule a fight with a local mixed martial arts promotion, then build on your resume with further matches, to generate a record which will interest a major mixed martial arts promotion such as the Ultimate Fighting Championships.
