How to Get Maximum Points in the UFC

The Ultimate Fighting Championship, or UFC, is one of the fastest-growing sports promotions in the world. The UFC is the leading promotion of mixed martial arts, in which competitors are allowed to use a number of different martial arts disciplines to score points or attempt to knock out their opponent. Scoring in the UFC is based on the Nevada State Athletics Commission rules for MMA and scoring counted from four angles: Clean strikes, Effective Grappling, Octagon Control and Effective Aggression. To get the maximum points, you must be able to dominate your opponent in all of these categories during the match. Each round is scored out of a maximum of 10 points -- 30 for a three-round fight, 50 for a five-round fight.

Instructions

    • 1

Throw a high number of heavy strikes. Judges are looking for frequency and effectiveness of strikes, so you need to outdo your opponent with punches, kicks, knees and elbows. Striking while on top of your opponent or in the guard position will score higher than if you are on the bottom.

    • 2

Demonstrate effective grappling skills. Do this by performing clean takedowns (tackling your opponent to the mat) and be proactive while in guard. This means defending well against your opponent and not allowing him to reverse the guard.

    • 3

Maintain octagon control. The cage in the UFC is shaped like an octagon and it is important to control this environment to score maximum points. Judges are looking for you to dominate your opponent and to stop him from attacking effectively. This may mean defending a grappler's takedown attempt or taking down a known striker.

    • 4

Be aggressive. This means that you must be always trying to move forwards, taking the fight to your opponent. Judges are looking for you not to be backing off but striking as you go forward. This will score highly with the judges. Also, performing effective takedowns will score highly with the judges as effective aggression.
