How to Do UFC Fighting
Instructions
-
Training
-
1
Find a gym that teaches one or more of the mixed martial arts used by UFC fighters. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and kickboxing are just a few of the different styles taught at MMA gyms. Talk to local MMA fighters and MMA organizations to find a MMA gym that bests suits your needs.
-
2
Train at the MMA gym under the guidance of coaches and other fighters to prepare for future MMA fights. Many hours of training and practice are necessary to one day compete in a MMA event.
-
3
Find the weight class that bests suits your body size and skill set. The UFC has seven different weight classes and each weight class is divided by a certain weight that a fighter must be within in order to compete. Most other MMA organizations use the same weights to determine weight classes, but not all weight classes are featured in every other MMA organization. As of April 2011, the UFC's seven weight classes, according to UFC Rules: Bantamweight over 125 lbs. to 135 lbs.; Featherweight over 135 lbs. to 145 lbs.; Lightweight over 145 lbs. to 155 lbs.; Welterweight over 155 lbs. to 170 lbs.; Middleweight over 170 lbs. to 185 lbs.
Light Heavyweight over 185 lbs. to 205 lbs.; Heavyweight over 205 lbs. to 265 lbs.
Getting Fights
-
4
Start looking for local MMA organizations once you and your coaches feel comfortable enough for you to fight. Local MMA events take place in such locations as colleges, hotels and arenas, and MMA promotional companies typically advertise at MMA gyms, online and via radio and television.
-
5
Verify with the MMA organization all necessary documents and medical information necessary to be granted a fight by both the organization and state licensing commission for MMA. Typically HIV and Hepatitis B and C tests are required by the state licensing commission to fight, as well as a physical examination.
-
6
Compete in MMA events and videotape each fight so the footage can be used to showcase your talent to bigger MMA organizations, so over time you can garner tougher competition and eventually apply to the UFC.
