Senior's Summer Games

They may be in the autumn of their lives, but older athletes have lots of opportunities to compete in senior summer games. All over the country, events showcase the athletic ability of those over 50 in individual and team sports. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded in various categories for Senior Olympic Games, many of which are held annually.
  1. Michigan Senior Olympics

    • Since 1979, Michigan Senior Olympics has been hosting games for those over 50. Held on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester, competition includes race-walking, basketball, tennis, weightlifting, field events, shuffleboard, archery, swimming, racquetball, badminton and bowling. Some events are held at other venues. Road races are co-ed 5K and 10K distances. Billiards competition, with men and women competing separately, is held at the Rochester Mills Beer Company. Golf medals are awarded after a three day, 54 hole competition at the Twin Lakes Golf and Swim Club. Only Michigan state residents are allowed to compete.

    Empire State Games

    • New York State residents over 50 years old are eligible for the Empire State Games, held in at the State University of New York in Cortland. Each year, 2000 older New Yorkers participate in twenty recreational events. Clinics, seminars and exhibits are also featured. Competitive sports include handball, golf, road races, volleyball, triathlon, swimming, table tennis, and women's softball. Recreational events include line dancing, Pilate's, fitness, bingo, horseshoes and yoga.

    Montana Senior Olympics Summer Games

    • Non-residents over 50 years of age are welcome to compete in Montana's annual Senior Olympic Summer Games, which is held in Kalispell. Compete in golf, horseshoes, archery, tennis, swimming, bowling, racquetball, road-racing, track and field, table tennis, race walking, softball and cycling. Gold, silver and bronze medals awarded, in five different age groups. Dinner and banquet included with registration. Competition at all skill levels.
