Winterfest Activities

Winterfest is the celebration of winter. To pull off a successful winterfest, think of activities that children and adults can both do so your environment is family friendly and you will attract more members of the community.
  1. Physical Activities

    • If you are hosting your winterfest celebration at an outdoor ice skating rink or ski resort, incorporate physical activities into your winterfest agenda. Ice skating, skiing, snowboarding and riding snowmobiles are activities that people can do in teams, as families or individually, and the activities can be for entertainment or for competition. A skiing competition, for instance, can involve seeing which skiers can jump the farthest. If you plan to host physical activities during your winterfest, let your community members know in advance so they can practice.

    Creative Activities

    • Each family, couple or team can work together to build a snowmen, and then decorate their snowmen with embellishments, such as scarves, carrot noses and top hats. Again, this is an activity that can be turned into a competition by having judges decide whose snowman is the most creative. Another creative activity is a face-painting contest. Participants can paint their faces to resemble winter themes by painting their faces silver and applying silver sequins or glitter.

    Food Activities

    • Food activities are entertaining for participants and spectators. For your winterfest, come up with some food activities such as pie eating contests, a contest to see who can stack the most pancakes and then eat them all, a game of bobbing for apples and a competition for constructing gingerbread houses. Another food activity is to have a hot chocolate contest to see which member of the community can make the best hot chocolate. You can also take your food activities into adults-only territory by hosting a holiday happy hour or a pub crawl.

    Pet Activities

    • Your winterfest can include activities for pets, too. One idea is to put pets on parade, and show off dogs and cats wearing cute winter clothes. Other activities that you can do with pets include letting your pets meet Santa and sit on his lap for a photo shoot and hosting a pet ice cream social with ice cream that is animal-friendly.
