Rules for a Super Bowl Ticket

The Super Bowl is one of the most popular of all of the major sporting events that happen each year. This also makes it one of the most in demand for tickets among sports fans. Because of this, very specific rules have been put into place by the National Football League to ensure the highest level of equity in obtaining these tickets.
  1. Method for Distribution

    • There are so many people who would do anything for tickets to the Super Bowl each year, if Super Bowl tickets were available like most other tickets for sporting events, they would sell out in seconds and quite possibly jam phone lines and Internet connections across the country due to attempts to "score" tickets. Because of this, the NFL has instituted a lottery system for ticket distribution. Ticket distribution is done through a completely random drawing.

    Entering Yourself into the Drawing

    • In order to put yourself into the random drawing for Super Bowl tickets, you must send your request to the NFL directly. These requests are accepted between February 1 and June 1 of the year preceding the desired Super Bowl. Requests should be sent by certified or registered mail to:

      Super Bowl Random Drawing

      P.O. Box 49140

      Strongsville, OH 44149-0140

Each address is allowed just one entry per year.

    Two Tickets Per Winner

    • Each year, the NFL releases just 500 pairs of tickets to the general public. This means that your chances are actually very slim. However, if you were lucky enough to have your name drawn, you would then have the opportunity to purchase just two tickets at their face value. The face value of these tickets is generally around $500.

    Categories of Tickets

    • It is obvious that there are likely more tickets available than the 500 pairs that are awarded in the random drawing. However, in order to obtain any of these, you probably need to know someone. The NFL distributes about 35 percent of the remaining tickets to each of the participating teams, 1 percent to the rest of the teams and the remaining 25 percent to charities, broadcasters and other similar entities. These are distributed various ways.

    October Drawing

    • Once you have submitted your name to the drawing, your must wait for the drawing to take place. After all duplicate entries are discarded, all the remaining entries are entered into the drawing. This drawing takes place in October of each year. Each person who sends in an entry will hear from the NFL after the drawing as to whether or not he has the opportunity to purchase a pair of tickets.
