About Super Bowl Tickets

On average, 1,000 people each year show up at the Super Bowl with counterfeit tickets. Advanced preparation is the key to securing Super Bowl tickets. Once the teams participating in the game are announced, ticket prices go up and become harder to find. When you are trying to find tickets to any Super Bowl game, it is important to ensure that your ticket is legit. All Super Bowl tickets feature thermographic ink and a holographic image of the Super Bowl logo and Vince Lombardi trophy.
  1. Distribution

    • Each team that participates in the Super Bowl splits approximately 35 percent of the tickets available for the venue. The NFL keeps 25 percent of the tickets to distribute in various ways, including giving them out to corporate sponsors, VIPs, the Host Committee and charities. Some of the NFL's tickets are sold in the lottery. The host team of the Super Bowl gets approximately 9 percent of the tickets. The rest of the tickets are divided between the rest of the NFL teams evenly.

    NFL Lottery

    • The NFL distributes around 500 pairs of tickets per Super Bowl. This is done through a random drawing or lottery every October. There isn't an entry fee to enter this drawing. Winners must pay face value, usually around $400 to $500 per ticket. The NFL accepts entries that contain the applicant's name, phone number and address. Only one entry per physical address is accepted. Entries must be sent between Feb. 1 and June 1 the year before the Super Bowl via registered or certified mail to:

Before you hand over your credit card information, contact the seller directly. Find out if a guarantee is offered on the tickets. If there is any doubt about the validity of the tickets, you will usually be better off watching the game from home or checking with other sellers for tickets.
