Kicker Outlook Week 16
Younghoe Koo (K1) has what would normally be perceived as a tough matchup this week. The Chiefs allow the fourth-fewest points to kickers this season (6.43 ppg). With that said, Koo had a “tough” matchup last week against a Bucs team who entered the game allowing 6.67 ppg to their last 12 opponents. Koo left that matchup scoring 11.0 points, his ninth double-digit performance of the season. The Chiefs are also just one game removed from surrendering 10.0 points to Miami kicker Jason Sanders.
Speaking of Jason Sanders (K3), he saw his production come to a crashing halt this past weekend, managing just 2.0 points on the day. Yet, considering he entered that game on a six-game streak of 10.0-plus points, we like his odds of bouncing back. That sentiment reigns especially true against a Raiders team that has allowed 14.0-plus points in two of their last four games to opposing kickers.
Cairo Santos (K2) has combined for 28.0 points over the past two weeks after scoring just 25.0 points over his four games prior. The position’s leading scoring from Week 15, Santos hit on three kicks between 40-49 yards. Over the past month, the Jaguars have allowed four kicks of such distance, tied for the league-lead. Furthermore, they’ve surrendered no fewer than 8.0 points to an opposing kicker in five straight games and over 10 of their last 11 games.
Wil Lutz (K4) has been a complete dud these past few weeks, failing to top 3.0 points in three consecutive games. He may be a risky buy in the Championship round, but you can’t deny that the matchup is awfully inviting. The Vikings, who just allowed 18.0 points to Cairo Santos last week, is just one of three teams to surrender double-digit points to opposing kickers on a per-game basis. Three of their last four opponents have scored at least 9.0 points.
