How to Collect NFL Helmets

If you're a football nut and love to collect NFL memorabilia, you might consider collecting NFL helmets. Helmets of all 30 NFL teams are available. With team logos on the sides, football helmets are a great way to show your loyalty and enthusiasm for the team or teams you support. Here are some tips to start your NFL helmet collection.

Decide if you want to only collect helmets of NFL teams you are a fan of or if you want to have a complete collection of all 30 NFL teams. Or maybe you are a fan of teams in one conference over the other (AFC or NFC) and wish to collect the helmets of teams that make up either conference.

Visit local sports memorabilia shops or search online retailers that specialize in sports collectibles. You might also find fans selling their NFL helmets on websites such as eBay.

    • 3

Choose the types of helmets you want to collect. While full-sized replicas are available, you can opt to collect mini-helmets. Riddell, the manufacturer of actual-sized football helmets, offers miniature replicas (right down to tiny chin straps) that cost substantially less than full-sized helmets.

Complete your collection by getting older versions of a team's helmet. Some teams have changed logos or colors over the years; for instance, the New York Giants used to have the team name, "Giants" spelled out on the sides of the helmet, but during the 1990s changed the logo back to the pre-1970's version, a lowercase "NY".

Add autographed helmets to your collection. You can purchase helmets, both full-sized and mini-helmets, with autographs of your favorite players on them. An autographed NFL helmet can add just the right touch, as well as worth, to your NFL helmet collection.
