How to Create a Book Cover for a Baseball Book

The advent of the Internet has allowed authors to publish their own books. No longer do you need a large publisher to print 100,000 copies of your work. Part of printing that book is creating a book cover. If you recently authored a baseball book, you can create a cover online and have it printed with your book. This includes hardcover cooks, softcover books, and those who wish to create a dust jacket cover as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to a website that allows you to create your own baseball book covers. Popular websites include Bookemon, ReadWriteThink and Mixbook. The latter specializes in photo books.

    • 2

Select a template from those provided. These sites let the user to choose a template based on the size of the book. If you have not already done so, determine the size of your baseball book so that the cover will match accordingly. Bookemon allows you to choose from a blank slate, a predesigned template, or even to upload a Word, PDF or Power Point file in order to begin.

    • 3

Select images for the front of your baseball book. As you create the baseball book cover, you want to be sure that the cover matches the content inside the book. For instance, if you wrote a book on the Boston Red Sox 2004 World Championship season, then it stands to reason that you want to use an image from that year. (Maybe Curt Schilling's bloody sock.) You can choose one large image, or create a collage of several images within the template maker. Most template makers will also allow you to edit the photos by sizing them and adjusting them to fit your needs. Just be sure the resolution of the image you are using is good enough that when it is enlarged, it is still in focus.

    • 4

Insert the title of your baseball book. Again, you want to have a title that speaks to the contents of your book. Using the example above, the title might be "The 2004 Red Sox: A Team of Blood and Guts." Depending on the complexity of the program, you might be asked to choose a font style, size and color. This is a personal preference. The only caveat is to make sure the text is clearly readable against the image on the baseball book cover.

    • 5

Add any pertinent information to the cover of the book. This will include a subtitle, if any, the author or authors' names, and potentially the year of publication.

    • 6

Match the text font, style and color on the spine of the book. Often the title and author or authors' names can be found on the spine of the book. This allows someone to read the title of your baseball book when it is on a shelf.

    • 7

Create the back cover of the book. The process to create the back of the book is generally the same. You may choose to have the same image from the front on the back, or choose a different image altogether. When adding the text, instead of placing the name on the back, think about placing quotes from inside the book, or reviews you have garnered from critics. The back of the book should serve as an appealing counterpart to the front.
