The city also is home to the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team, the Penguins hockey franchise, and a college basketball team that is consistently ranked highly.
Philadelphia
-
In the same state as Pittsburgh, Philadelphia also cracks the top 10 lists of both The Sporting News and The Bleacher Report. The Phillies major league baseball team won the World Series in 2008, and the Eagles NFL team is a consistent playoff attendee. Philadelphia is also home to a professional basketball team, the 76ers, and hockey team, the Flyers.
Boston

The Boston Red Sox baseball team took home World Series titles in 2004 and 2007. The Celtics are consistently one of the top teams in the National Basketball Association and have 17 championships to their credit, the last one coming during the 2007 and 2008 season. The New England Patriots, a football team that plays nearby, have won three Super Bowls. The Sporting News and Bleacher Report list Boston as a top choice for sports enthusiasts.
New York City
-
The largest city in America, New York is home to the Yankees, a baseball franchise with the most World Series championships in history. Both the Sporting News and Bleacher Report consider New York one of the best sports regions in the world. A second baseball team, the Mets, also plays in the city. New York also serves as the home of the Knicks NBA team, and the Giants and Jets in the NFL. The Islanders represent the city in the National Hockey League.
Chicago
-
Chicago has the third largest population in the United States and makes both the Sporting News and Bleacher Report lists. The Bears are one of the oldest football teams and last won the Super Bowl in 1986. The Cubs baseball team consistently sells out its games, and the White Sox baseball team won the World Series in 2005. The Blackhawks and Bulls, storied franchises in the NHL and NBA respectively, are also in Chicago. Michael Jordan played the majority of his basketball career with the Bulls.
