Boar Hunting in Western Colorado
-
Wild Boar Facts
-
Wild boars are the product of domesticated swine released in the wild to fend for themselves. An adult boar can weigh between 400 and 600 lbs., and will have a pair of dangerous upward-pointing tusks. Boars will eat almost anything organic, from roots and fruit to bird eggs and lizards. Cornered boars have been known to attack hunters and to kill hunting dogs.
Helpful Hunting
-
Wild piglets are born with striped fur. Feral pigs cause untold damage to the native environment's flora and fauna as well as personal property. Colorado government encourages hunters to kill as many hogs as they possibly can with no hunting restrictions, to thin the herd.
Hunting Tips And Tricks
-
Pigs are smart animals and will pick up on strange scents and smells. Hunters should be silent and mask their scents around a herd of wild boars to keep from startling them. Boars have a strong "flight or fight" response, meaning they will either run into the brush or straight at the hunter. Hogs prefer marshy and wooded areas.
