How to Do a Duck Dive With a Bodyboard
A duck dive is a tactic a surfer can use to get past an upcoming wave. The surfer can allow the wave to pummel him, try to ride it, or duck dive under it. Knowing how to duck dive properly with a body board is especially important for beginning surfers as the maneuver prevents them from getting knocked around by the waves.

1
Paddle towards an upcoming wave on your body board. When the wave is three feet or so away, grab the sides of your body board and pull them toward your chest.
-
2
Push the nose of your board down into the water. Just as the board is plunging under the surface of the water and the wave is about to cover you, use your knees to push down on the tail of your board. This will submerge the board completely. Push your body down to meet the board, but be careful not to pull the board up to you.

3
Pull up on the nose of the board just after the wave clears past your body. This will allow you to naturally come up to the surface and prepare for the next wave by paddling forward.
