Is There Any Way to Increase the Draw Length on a Compound Bow?

Many modern compound bows use an adjustable pulley system so archers can quickly reset the bow's draw length. These adjustable systems typically allow for several inches of adjustment for both longer and shorter draw lengths. For optimal performance a compound bow should be set with the maximum draw length for the archer's size. The draw length should be set so that the bowstring touches the corner of the mouth when at full draw. Adjusting the draw length and draw weight can significantly affect a bow's shooting performance.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the bowstring completely back and hold it. Have an assistant slide medium sized nails through the holes at the bottom of each bow pulley.

    • 2

Release the bowstring pressure carefully to make sure the nails stay in place.

    • 3

Remove the bowstring end loops from around the string connectors on both pulleys and slide the connectors out of the pulleys and away from the bow limbs.

    • 4

Adjust the connectors, select a lower position for longer draw lengths or select a higher position for shorter draw lengths.

    • 5

Connect the string back around the string connectors. Pull the bowstring back fully and have your assistant pull the nails from the pulleys, then slowly return the bowstring to the resting position.
