How to Build a Paint Dip Tank

The act of creating an arrow is something humans have been working on for thousands of years. Even in modern times some archery enthusiasts still design their own arrows despite the availability of machine-made patterns and designs. An important tool for anyone looking to make arrows at home is a dip tank. The dip method of painting requires little skill and results in a uniform finish. Making your own dip tank can save you money and give you greater control over the customization of your arrows.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply ABS contact cement to the inside of the 1.5-inch end cap. Press the cap firmly onto one end of the pipe. Allow the glue to dry completely.

    • 2

Test the end cap seal by pouring a small amount of water into the pipe. If water leaks out apply more contact cement around the edge of the end cap to seal it.

    • 3

Slide a 1.5-inch screw top adapter into the other end of the pipe.

    • 4

Cut a 4-by-4-inch piece from the bike tire inner tube. Poke a 5/16-inch hole in the center of the rubber square. Place it over the open end of the pipe. Tightly secure it to the pipe using the rubber band, winding it over several times if necessary.

    • 5

Remove the rubber tubing and seal the dip tank with a 1.5-inch end cap when not in use.
