Archery is a popular sport throughout the United States. Thousands of stores, clubs, and shooting ranges across the country feature the sport. Although just about anything imaginable is available online, this is not always the best choice for archery equipment. Being able to feel the weight of a bow, test the size and determine how much strength it takes to use it can be done only in person.

      In business since 2004, North Texas Archery and Outfitting carries a complete line of bows, arrows, and supplies. They cater to everyone from beginners to pros, target shooters and hunters alike. This store stocks Mathews, Hoyt and Parker bows. Shoppers can find recurve (traditional style), compound, and crossbows of varying sizes, and if you can't find it in the store the owners will get it for you. A 20-yard shooting range, providing practice shooting from a distance commonly used when hunting, is on hand.

    Double G Archery

    • All kinds of people enjoy archery.

      Located near Austin and Georgetown, this large archery shop has almost anything an archer could want. Double G carries more than 20 different brands of bows and accessories. The owners and all of the employees are archery enthusiasts, enjoying hunting and target shooting. An indoor range is available, and on Tuesday evenings Double G hosts a target shooting league for $8 (as of June 2010). No advance notice is necessary to drop in and shoot.

    The Bow Shop

    • Most classes at the Bow Shop are open to all ages.

      Though not the biggest shop in Texas, this little shop in San Antonio sells a complete line of archery products, with an emphasis on those used for target shooting. The Bow Shop has on-site repair service, with a bow mechanic available five days per week, Tuesday through Saturday. Shooters can also enter tournaments held at the Bow Shop's large indoor range. It has 10 lanes 20 yards long, and one that is 10 yards. In addition to competitions and practice sessions, archers can also sign up to take classes and workshops.
