1
Split your feather down the middle long ways, so you're left with a half a feather. Sand the bottom of the feather's shaft with sandpaper until it is smooth.
-
2
Cut the feather to shape using scissors or a feather chopper. If you use a feather chopper the size and shape is much more consistent. Lay the feather across the cutting area over the designated space and flip the latch. Hit the pounding block with a hammer, and you will get a perfect feather every time.

3
Use a fletching jig or attach the feather to the shaft by hand. If you are doing it by hand, space the feathers so they are 120 degrees apart for a three-feather arrow. Take your cut feather and place it in the fletching clamp. Apply the double-sided fletching tape or Super Glue along the feather being careful not to glue the clamp shut if using Super Glue. Mount the clamp back on your jig and let dry if using glue or remove when convenient because fletching tape works instantly. If you do not have a jig, you will need to hold the fletching in place when using glue. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for all three fletchings

4
Wrap the shaft with thread to add strength to your fletchings. Start by wrapping a thick layer of thread over the bottom of the fletching on the tips then begin to slowly and in even increments wrap the thread around the shaft while threading it through the feathers' barbs. Wrap it thickly at the top of the fletchings and tie it off or glue the end.
