1
Inspect the trailer's frame and search for any cracks or weak spots. You may need to weld weak or cracked spots. Find an experienced welder if you're uncomfortable or unsure on the proper way to weld these spots. No matter who does the job, welding requires goggles or welding helmets with dark face plates that can protect the worker from harmful ultraviolet rays.

2
Install a winch for pulling the race car in the trailer. Some race cars will be too heavy to push into the trailer; a winch will provide the necessary support. Most winches are installed on the outside and toward the front of the trailer.

3
Build a tire rack along one side of the trailer; a steel rack will provide the necessary support. Location and size of the tire rack will depend on how much room you have in the trailer. Some trailers are wide enough to build the rack on the ground; others will need to be built higher along the walls.

4
Build a work bench inside the trailer. Choose a spot that allows enough work space. A lot of race teams build their work benches toward the front of the trailer versus the sides because more room is usually available at the front. Work benches can be made with a variety of materials or even bought from a store if the size fits the trailer's width.
-
5
Build cabinets to allow storage for miscellaneous parts like cleaning materials. Cabinets can be made or bought just like work benches.
