How to Rebuild a Go-Kart Motor
Instructions
-
-
1
Drain the used oil from the engine into an oil drip pan. Replace the used oil with fresh oil. This can be completed either prior to or following the motor rebuilding process.
-
2
Remove the old engine and all of its components from the go-kart engine mount. This makes it easier for you to inspect each part of the engine throughout the rebuilding process.
-
3
Clean the engine and its inner compartments with a special engine spray cleaning supply. Always use a cleaning supply instead of water. You may need a brush to clean parts of the motor compartments.
-
4
Allow the recently cleaned engine components to dry.
-
5
Inspect all engine components, such as the camshaft, exhaust system, valves and carburetor, for wear and tear or other discrepancies. Replace the components that display any apparent wear and tear. If they are still usable, save them and reinstall them once the entire motor rebuilding process has neared its completion.
-
6
Use oil to grease the engine components and its inside areas. Seal the covers of the engine block, crankshaft, head assembly, and water pump with a specialized sealer.
-
7
Reconstruct the engine components. Mount the motor on to the engine block. Crank the go-kart just to allow the new oil to flow. Test the motor by taking it for a drive. This will allow you to verify that the engine is performing at a desired level.
