How to Adjust the Speed on a Go Kart Engine
Instructions

1
Add a turbo charger or super charger to the engine: These components work as compressors, increasing air flow into the engine, which creates a richer combination of gas and air. The process adds power to the engine, thus creating more speed.
-
2
Modify the cam shaft: Raise the valves to increase the extent of their pumping. This increased pumping action enhances the effectiveness of the air-gas mixture combustion in the engine.
-
3
Increase the bore (or diameter) of the cylinders in the Go Kart engine: In some engines, for this to be accomplished properly and accurately, an expert from a machine or engine shop will have to alter the bore of an engine.
-
4
Expand the diameter of the intake manifold to produce favorable air and fuel flow into the engine. Add a bigger carburetor, which will also free the air flow, therefore increasing air and fuel flow into the engine.
-
5
Decrease the weight of the fly wheel in order to add reaction time when pressing on the gas pedal. This process also lessens deceleration time when you remove your foot from the gas pedal.
-
6
Upgrade the engine's air filter to enhance air flow. Replace it with a high performance air filter. Replace the used spark plug with a high-performance spark plug. This increases the speed of the go kart engine, as well as the overall performance.
-
7
Add alcohol to the fuel system in order to attain more speed and engine power, as it the new mixture burns at a higher temperature than gasoline. Avoid too much alcohol, however, as you do not want to any engine parts to melt or dissolve.
