How to Clamp the First String of a Badminton Racket

Badminton rackets are strung from the middle, which will reduce uneven stresses when replacing old strings. Many badminton players prefer two-piece stringing. Some badminton enthusiasts also add an additional half-pound of tension to their cross strings. This technique prolongs tension in the strings. Although you can pay a professional to string your badminton racket, it is also possible to do it yourself, provided you have the right equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut off a 15-foot piece of badminton racket string. Remember to always add an inch or two of length to the string you are cutting from the reel. This extra length is required to tighten the knots. It is better to cut a longer rather than a shorter piece of string from your roll.

    • 2

Hang your reel so it can rotate while you are unwinding the string.

    • 3

Use a yardstick to measure the string and make sure it does not get tangled.

    • 4

Use a level to make sure that your stringing machine is in a horizontal position. Place the racket in the stringing machine and secure it in place. Be careful not to distort the frame.

    • 5

Begin at the head of the racket and thread the two ends of the badminton racket string through the top two grommets. Thread these two pieces of string through the two grommets on the bottom of the racket, closest to the shaft. Ensure to leave equal lengths of string at the grip or shaft end of the racket.

    • 6

Leave loops that can be held with a tensioner and feed the two ends of the string through the next two grommets. Continue to feed the string through, until there is none left. Do not be concerned if it appears as if the string will not be long enough, as you will gain a fair amount of string when you begin to apply tension to it.

Clamp the first string at the top of the badminton racket, close to the frame. Place this clamp correctly, as another clamp must be placed next to it, as you continue to string the racket. Use the tensioner to hold the loop at the bottom of the racket and pull this loop until you have the tension you desire.
